We finally returned to our “Glen Marathon” but this year due to washed-out roads in the Glen area, the race could not return to Glen, hence we did not refer to it as IBL Glen Marathon. The name change did not dampen the vibe though. We teamed up with SWASAP and offered four different races in one day. We catered for all, from a 5km fun run/walk, 10, 21 and 52kms races. As usual, we relied on Achilles Running Club to host and organize the event and we were not disappointed.
We had runners from various running clubs, nonaffiliated runners as well as from the public. What set this race apart from the rest is that it was the last opportunity for Free State Runners to qualify for the prestigious Comrades Marathon.
Congrats to all the participants and the winners. Next year’s event will be bigger and better. Good luck to all Free State Runners taking part in the Comrades Marathon.
