Service excellence

The company prides itself in delivering excellent service to the communities in which it is operating. Its service credo is underpinned by the commitment to safety, reliability and quality service. Out of the 33 000 monthly trips, spanning a total of just over 17 million kilometers annually, service level execution standard is 99.7% as confirmed by our service monitors. This service level execution far surpasses those of national passenger services of its fleet size in the country.

FLEET

The company rates the safety of its commuters and the quality of service rendered as a high priority and continues to invest in its fleet. The fleet has a current average age of around six (6) years. Interstate Bus Lines’ fleet age is far below that of the industry norm of 15 years. The total fleet of 235 consists of 93 train busses and 144 rigid, including 8 subcontractor buses. Our buses consist of a mix of 62-, 65-, 79- and 114-seater buses and 4×4 people carriers for rural operations.

  • Founded in 1975, IBL has grown to become a significant transportation company. In 2025, IBL will celebrate its 50th anniversary.
  • IBL transports on average 25 000 passengers daily, 7 days a week.
  • The 235 buses travel a total of 16 million kilometers per annum, average of 1.3 million kilometers/month – 33 times around the globe
  • IBL operates 33 000 trips per month, a service level execution standard of 97% as confirmed by our service monitors.
  • The buses have a fuel consumption averaging 7.1 million liters per annum, averaging 525 000 liters/month – 13523 VW Polo’s.
  • The company employs 643 employees, whom on average each have three dependents; hence the economic spin-off that reaches around 1929 people.
  • With a monthly salary bill of approximately R17 million, the company plays a crucial part in the financial sustainability of the Bloemfontein, Botshabelo and Thaba ‘Nchu areas (BBT area).

SPECIAL VEHICLE HIRE

We cater very competently for special or private occasions. A customer can hire 65 or 100 seater buses for a period of time. Great occasions like the annual ZCC meeting at Moria are excellent examples of how we support our customers and commuters.

Regular special hires are also catered for in and around Free State Province, including Brandfort, Wepener, Virginia, Welkom, Bloemfontein, Thaba Nchu, Botshabelo, Ficksburg and more.

DRIVER TRAINING

Our training academy hosts an exceptional driver training programme to assist and equip prospective Interstate Bus Lines drivers with the necessary skills and knowledge they need to safely and professionally operate large vehicles such as buses and trucks. The academy is equipped with a high-end technology simulator, Vienna Dover Testing System, and E-Learning Modules. This technology is also used by our current staff members to further develop their driving competencies.
